Cancer Awareness Seminar
We recently undertook a seminar on Cancer Awareness in Manchester . This was held at Eastern Pearl Restaurant, Longsight, Manchester . Funding was achieved from a local agency, Voluntary Action Manchester (VAM) Information about this was disseminated through flyers to GP surgeries, hospitals, places of worship, community centres and voluntary groups. Its aim was to educate people mainly of South Asian (Indian & Pakistani) origin about the different cancers, including topics on; gullet and stomach cancer, bowel cancer, womb and ovarian cancer, cervical screening, smoking and lung cancer, and the patient's experience. The meeting was also attended by cancer charities including Cancer Research UK

Health Check Day
The Health Check Day held at Manchester Town Hall was a combined
initiative of ISB, MediConcern, and the Occupational Health Department of Manchester Council. It was held during Islam Awareness Week, and took place on Wednesday 24th November 2004, between 10am and 3 pm.

Diabetes
A successful educational seminar was held on Diabetes, this provided information on the prevalence of and description of the condition, included was ways to prevent its onset, lifestyle changes which would also significantly help to control diabetes once diagnosed. Discussions also took place on the potential complications of the disease. A dietician from the local Diabetes centre also gave an excellent talk. Finally a session was given to checking the blood pressure and sugars of those atttending the seminar.
